As it is an important moment in the history of the modern world. We will look at the history of the pub. if you have any old pictures or media related to the pub, we would love to hear more from you.

ROBIN HOOD - and his merry men?

The obvious name of the pub has always thrown up a few questions??

I grew up in Chapel-en-le-Frith, once on the edge of the Great Sherwood forest, not far from the grave of Little John in Hathersage. So I was intrigued to know how he made it up to Smithfield, Carlisle of all places?

After extensive research by the pubs owner. We have been led to believe the pubs name derives from a Local cock fighting legend. Not the knight and archer extraordinaire from Loxley.

According to local records Cockfights would regularly take place at the rear of the building which dates to the 1700's

It has been noted that the emblem of Dalston, the fighting cock robin hood, regularly fought at this site, which is why the name of the pub evolved from red house, to Robin Hood

Robin Hood through the years

Starting from the private management in 1972 The new sign and logo, now reflects the real heritage of the real Robin Hood.

During these uncertain times we have evolved to help sustain the village pub.
