Christmas 2020

Updated: Dec 4, 2021

I know a lot of you have been awaiting an update from us here at The Robin Hood.

So we thought that we would tell our story of the year so far.

Let's be honest, no one expected this year to be as awful as it has turned out to be.

Every person, up and down the country, has been affected in one way or another.

Those who know us, will be aware that we are an independent business, built on hopes, dreams, love and hard work. We care for our pub, our staff and our customers. It has been difficult not being able to see you all this year, however we have kept busy and have developed our offerings for the future.

As we have moved from Lockdown 2.0 to the tiered system, there has been a push from businesses to get back to "normal" for Christmas.

We have carefully considered the situation and have decided to remain closed until restrictions to trading are lifted and we can guarantee a safe area for the public.

On the 18th March 2020

We decided to close our business until the crisis is resolved.

We would like to thank everyone for the support we have received since the Spring. We have continued to keep the pub alive online.

It has been a difficult year, but we hope by remaining closed, we will be here to welcome and support our community in the future.

Sustaining the Robin Hood has been our priority. Our rent, bills, licenses and expenses continue to be payable.

During the initial lockdown we were grateful for support to our crowdfunding page.

This provided support for a few weeks,

when we most needed it, while no other support was available.

As with most local business, we have benefited from grant support and rates relief administered by Carlisle City Council.

We have also been supplementing the costs of the Robin Hood by increasing our hours in our part time jobs.

With the long term investments that we have made here, we have diversified our business to offer nationally, our online wine cellar. This will also help support the Robin in the future.

PRIVATE DINING

Our Seasonal tasting menu's - which have been available as part of our Private Dining service alongside our unique Hungarian wines, have been a fantastic way to enjoy the best local produce while the pub has been closed, during the pandemic.

This year we have taken our fine dining service on the road, we have had the pleasure to visit clients in Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and others as well as visiting some familiar friendly local faces.

This Summer I was humbled to take part in the Concern Worldwide UK Ration Challenge UK 2020. For a week I was only eating the rations that a Syrian refugee in Jordan would receive.

I did not have the luxury of coffee, sugar or soft drinks.

During the Summer we joined the dedicated volunteers at SHINE in Brampton and beyond. They have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic to support the community.

A small, dedicated team of volunteers have ensured that the vulnerable and at risk members of our community have received support through food parcels and hot meals service.

The team have been collecting food donations from local people and businesses as well as providing support to the users, in a large rural area.

S.H.I.N.E. partnered with The Affordable Food Hub from Carlisle Community Help, to provide good quality produce at an affordable price, on a long term or temporary basis to promote independence.

We will continue to listen to professional advice, so that when restrictions to trade are lifted, we will be able to provide a greener future and higher quality dining experience for all.
